Sidney Merle was partly crippled. When he ran the domino parlor he had an electric tiller-steered three wheeled golf car with an enclosure he used to commute from home and work. He would sing very loudly as he rode down the then gravel Ripley Road. One morning he didn't make it to work - the batteries ran down, and he pushed the little car from Oscar Arnold's to town. I offered to take him or tow him, but he refused. He wasn't singing that morning.
