This was about 4 or 5 years before a few of us were born, but maybe we can remember most of these '35 grads. Also remember this is the old building that burned in, I believe, 1939. Simon Spight helped identify everyone, so here is his list:
From the left: Mary Beth Agnew, Paul (Popeye) Gentry, Milton Putt, Hal Walker Norman, Eugene (Gene) Caldwell, Dr. James Simmons, Cecil Whitaker, Houston Wood, Mrs. Glenn Riley – sponsor, Bruce Trantham, A. T. Stocks, Carroll McCarthy – I think he is the younger brother of the famous Babe McCarthy, Earl Adams – son of Abbie & Maggie, Banks Hendricks, James Preston McWhorter, Jo Ann Gower.

The original of this photo belonged to a distant cousin Carra Childers Blythe in Tishomingo County.
She commented on the unfair ratio of males to females in the class.

Love the photo. I had thought that Popeye had polio at a young age but apparently not so.
J. P. McWhorter is unmistakable! The ladies also look very debonair. Good photo, like to see old pics like that, thanks.
Carroll McCarthy is the spittin' image of "the Babe", for sure. What did he do in life? I rarely saw him around town.
The girls who should have graduated in their senior year were housewives by then! The ratio got better from this time on.
Since my mother and several aunts only went through the ninth grade back then, you make a good point. thanks. mc
Is the McCarthy fellow positively identified? Sure looks like Babe to several of us.
I'm going by Simon's ID, however, the Babe would have been only twelve years old in 1935. He was born 1 Oct 1923 and died 18 Mar 1975.
Carroll Edward was born in 1919 and died 1948. He was a doctor and obviously died too young. mc
Was Carroll McCarthy Butch McCarthy's father?
